The Homeless Voice Group is made up of residents and providers of temporary accommodation, and homeless support services in Perth and Kinross. Sparked by an email from The Salvation Armyís Skinnergate Lifehouse recommending the benefits of involving homeless people in implementing Perth & Kinross Councilís Homelessness Strategy, the group began life in 2010. Representatives from Skinnergate, CATH, Wellbank House, Greyfriars House, Rio and support services in the Councilís Housing & Community Care teams, have been regular attendees at meetings. Perth College, the Drug and Alcohol Team and the community dietician, have also been involved.
The meetings take place in the Gannochy Training Suite, a hidden gem located in King Edward Street. The Homeless Voice Group meets regularly and is now ready to plan other activities to allow greater involvement of people who are experiencing homelessness or who are living in temporary accommodation.
