Inspiral

A MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE

Inspiral, a new voluntary group led by people recovering from substance misuse has recently been set up in Perth. The initiative, supported by P&K Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, is being managed through PLUS, a third sector organisation based in the centre of town. PLUS, well known locally for mental health campaigning, was awarded the funding to facilitate the group as a result of past successes in the field of service user involvement, anti stigma work and recovery.

The main objectives of Inspiral include,

■Utilise the lived experience of its members to promote recovery from substance misuse.
■Provide accurate information in the field of substance misuse locally and nationally
■Deliver training and hold awareness raising events to develop more understanding of substance misuse
■Give people who have experienced substance misuse a voice at planning meetings for more person- centred services.
■Establish up local recovery networks
■Challenge the stigma associated with substance misuse.
